Baltic Treasures

Your individual journey of discovery

Experience the unique natural and cultural treasures of the Baltic Sea region combined in one region - Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany.

The gateway to your individual journey of discovery starts in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. Here you can marvel not only at an impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site but also at the largest and most valuable Viking treasure ever found. Countless historic brick Gothic buildings tell the eventful history of this important trading and Hanseatic metropolis.

The next day, sail with the wind or go by boat through the unique lagoon landscape of the National Park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft to the idyllic island of Hiddensee, the only car-free island in the Baltic Sea and the original site of the Viking gold admired on the previous day. You can have freshly caught herring slowly flavoured by the Hiddensee cutter fishers or else take it home with you in a valuable gift box. Here, your personal treasure chest is filled with all the Baltic treasures that you can find along the miles and miles of natural beach.

Exploring the island of Rügen

For the following day’s trip, you will take the ferry to Germany's largest island - Rügen. Discover the brick tower of Schinkel and the remains of the Slavic ramparts at Cape Arkona. Continue along the fields, bays and pine forests to Jasmund National Park. Immerse yourself in the play of colours of the blue Baltic Sea, the green canopy of leaves and the white chalk coast, the only one in Germany. Take your time and hike through the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Old Beech Forests". Wander through this fascinating habitat. There is even more to learn in the interactive experience exhibition in the Königsstuhl National Park Centre. It is located on the famous chalk cliff of the same name.

On your treasure hunt, discover the sophisticated spa architecture of the last century in the Baltic seaside resort of Binz. Here you can let the sand trickle through your fingers during a walk along the beach and listen to the cries of the seagulls.
